About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Brighton and Hove Albion and Bournemouth played out a 1-1 draw at the American Express Stadium in their Premier League clash on Monday. The result was a fair reflection of a tightly contested match, with both teams having their moments but ultimately unable to secure all three points. The game began with Bournemouth taking the lead in the 32nd minute through Marcus Tavernier, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead. Brighton, however, showed resilience and continued to press for an equalizer. Their efforts were rewarded in the 90th minute when substitute Charalambos Kostoulas found the back of the net, salvaging a point for the home side. In terms of lineup changes, Brighton made no changes from their previous match, maintaining consistency despite the absence of key players like Lewis Dunk and Diego Gómez due to suspension. Bournemouth also fielded an unchanged lineup, with several players, including Enes Unal and Justin Kluivert, missing out due to injuries. Tactically, Brighton's manager opted to introduce Kostoulas, Olivier Boscagli, Yankuba Minteh, Carlos Baleba, and Georginio Rutter from the bench, which eventually paid off with Kostoulas' late goal. Bournemouth's substitutions included Adam Smith, Bafodé Diakité, Ryan Christie, and Veljko Milosavljevic, aiming to bolster their defense and maintain their lead. This draw leaves Brighton in a mid-table position, continuing their steady form with a mix of wins and draws in recent matches. Bournemouth, meanwhile, will be slightly disappointed not to have held onto their lead, but the point keeps them competitive in the league standings. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of Brighton to fight back late in the game, with fans praising Kostoulas for his impact off the bench. Bournemouth's head coach acknowledged the missed opportunity to secure a win but remained positive about the team's performance. Overall, the match was a testament to the competitive nature of the Premier League, with both teams demonstrating their ability to compete at this level.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
